She was DONE (in terms of truly mainstream recognition) aside from these movie soundtracks & that 1st album although her 2nd and 3rd album did kind of well too. She also had Young and Beautiful and the other soundtrack (forgot the name) so she had A LOT of potential, especially given the fact that she sold over 7 million physical copies of her Born To Die album worldwide but that was it. That's literally how most of her fans found out about who she was back in 2013. Someone's gonna say oh but people don't listen to the radio as much anymore and while that may be true it's still a way for people to discover new artists if they happen to hear a very distinctive song that's being played. She's only had Summertime Sadness, Blue Jeans and Born To Die (for "big" hits if you consider these songs big + Video Games but it was more popular online than it was on the radio) and all of these songs are from the same album. I cannot understand why she refuses to sit her ass down and write some songs that are more radio-friendly. Lana isn't even on that level of talent especially performance-wise and almost none of her songs are genuinely catchy enough for the radio. Hell, Kurt Cobain made a career out of only writing simple, yet CATCHY punk rock songs but Nirvana would've still ended up being yet another popular underground band if it wasn't for Smells Like Teen Spirit and they were the last truly huge rock band. Once again, i LOVE some of her songs and i feel like the general public is missing out on a lot when it comes to her catalog.īut how can her fanbase expect her to become some kind of a a truly mainstream artist if her most popular work (among the average music listener) is that Summertime Sadness remix (not even her original version LOL) that was released circa 7 years ago?Įven Prince had to write his 1999 + Purple Rain songs (and some other 80s hits) in order to reach his commercial peak and that's always been the case when it comes to the rise of all iconic musicians and/or popular music movements. They always act like she can do no wrong & like she's some kind of music genius/virtuoso a la Prince. Most people either adore her or hate her.Īnd her fans are incredibly pretentious and annoying. I feel like if it wasn't for her controversial lyrics (her singing about how abusive relationships are "love") and her foolishnes when it comes to her ego, made up persona and overall never-ending lies about her rich background and plastic surgeries she could've been a much bigger artist by now & that's assuming that she wouldn't have been so far up her ass and would've actually decided to write a couple of CATCHY songs becuase out of all of her albums she has only a few. She also arguably paved the way for "sad girl music" that we're seeing in the industry now with Billie Eilish and other popular alternative female musicians. She has some truly beautiful songs and i like her aesthetic.
So although Lana Del Rey isn't EXTRAORDINARILY talented by any means, her catalog and performances are much better compared to TSwift', AGrande', Selena', Demi', Miley' and all of the other pop and alt girls's.
